With the intention of fixing some of the notions about power and organization, the authors let it be known early that by "fixing" they mean they are developing an image, as in a photograph, and exercising power by fixing or refixing its relations as nodal points. They thus situate power in organization and social theory and show how power becomes embedded in routines in organizations. They analyze the shift from formal design of work to concerns about the people at work, the contributions of Weber, the role of the disenfranchised in identifying power as a systemic enemy, the oversimplification of theories of power that led to the horrors of modernity, the debate between positive and negative power, Foucault's impact on thought about Hobbes and Locke, critical theories, discursive theories, forms, corporate ethics, and how current society might affect power as a concept and a practice.
