The Study of Memory

Summary: This program introduces the basic terms used in the study of memory such as encoding, storage and retrieval. Reviews the historical ideas about memory, modern theories and current research in the area of everyday memory. The reasons for forgetting are explored, the biological basis of memory, and ways of improving memory. The program emphasizes the change in the past decade from laboratory-based research to the study of memory in everday life and includes eight exercises, including memeory tests and a video clip of a robbery to test recall for eye witness testimony.
